My husband wants to use me for money-making rituals 'Wife

Published by Punch on Thu, 15 Dec 2011

Toyin Owoyomi, 33, has dragged her husband, Israel, before a Grade B Customary Court, Oshodi, Lagos, seeking dissolution of their 14-year-old marriage.Toyin alleged that her husband, after joining politics in 2007, tried to use her for money-making rituals, News Agency of Nigeria reports. She said, "I cannot allow my husband to kill me because I want to live and take care of my children. Since my husband joined politics in Ekiti State in 2007, he has become fetish; he visits herbalists and does strange things like buying white dishes and clay pots."My husband once massaged my belly in pretence that he wanted to know how the unborn child was doing."Five minutes after that I had a miscarriage which almost cost me my life. I have been having terrible dreams and revelations that my husband is up to something."Toyin urged the court to grant her the custody of the two children of the union, adding that she could not continue to remain married to her husband.Isreal, 43, however denied the allegations and pleaded that the marriage should not be dissolved. He admitted that when he had a spiritual attack, he only visited a church and not a herbalist."Since my wife joined the Mountain of Fire Church, her ways of thinking, attitude and perception about me changed negatively. She regards me as a sinner, and will never see anything good in whatever I say or do," Israel said. The Courts President, Alhaja A. I. Olorunimbe, asked the embattled couple to maintain peace, advising Israel to seek forgiveness from his wife before the court gives its judgment.Olorunimbe adjourned the case till January 23, 2012 for further hearing.
