NSC, NOC weep for Bada

The National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Olympic Committee have expressed shock at the death of former Olympian Sunday Bada, who was until his death on Monday, the Technical Director of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria.NSC Director General, Patrick Ekeji, said on Wednesday that Nigerian sports had lost one of the most experienced and accomplished sports icons. He added that the nation had lost a committed sports administrator. Ekeji sent his condolences to the AFN and the family of the deceased and prayed that God would grant him eternal rest.The DG urged the AFN to see Badas death as a challenge and ensure that the objectives and targets the late Olympian set for the London Olympics were achieved or surpassed.The NOC also described Badas death as "too bad for Nigerian sports" especially as the body prepares for the London 2012 Olympics.NOC President Sani Ndanusa, who was in London ahead of the Olympics, said Badas death was a big blow on Nigerian sports. He said, "He was a hard working and dynamic young man who not only toiled for Nigerian sports but was in the vanguard of taking athletics to the zenith. He was a leading light in the sport and a paragon even in the Nigeria Police. "Death has indeed robbed us of a man who worked assiduously for the Olympics."Bada, a Superintendent in the Nigeria Police, was a 400m world champion at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in1998. In 2000, in Sydney Australia, he was a member of the Nigeria quartet that won the Olympic gold medal in the mens 4 x 400m relay.He captained Team Nigeria in the 1999 and 2003 All Africa Games in South Africa and Nigeria respectively. He was also the Secretary General of the Nigerian Olympians Association.
