The proposed nuclear power plants in the country will employ over 2,000 Nigerians and provide a significant amount of electricity when they come into operation, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, National Atomic Energy Commission, Dr. Erepamo Osaisai, has said.Osaisai spoke in Abuja on Thursday at the inauguration of the Masters Degree programmes in nuclear science and engineering aimed at providing the human capital base for the take off of the power plants.The programmes are being run by NAEC in collaboration with the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; University of Port Harcourt and University of Maiduguri.Osaisai said, Nigeria, in 2007, decided to implement its nuclear power programme. Nigeria can develop its nuclear power plants successfully. One of the most important drivers is the human resource base.This Masters programme is meant to provide the critical human resource base that will be useful in implementing the programme. At least, we need to train over 2,000 people over a period of eight years.He added, The partnership will go on as long as we can imagine. For now, we are going to be putting resources together to implement the programme with some other universities and they will be sharing the facilities with us.
