Dike dumps Enugu Rangers

Published by Punch on Fri, 16 Dec 2011

Enugu Rangers coach Alphonsus Dike has resigned from his post after another season that yielded no silverware for the six-time Nigeria Premier League champions.Dike, who led the Flying Antelopes to a sixth place finish in last seasons NPL campaign and also failed to win the WAFU Cup in Togo, claimed the teams fruitless performance was not responsible for his resignation. He said, I took the decision because I feel it is time to move on. I dont have any problem with the club. Besides, my two-year contract ended with the close of last season.Im available if any club wants my services either in Nigeria or any other country.I left Rangers with a clear conscience that I built a strong team that can always get better. We had our problems in the last season but we did our best to finish where we did.The former Golden Eaglets coach lamented Rangers loss in the WAFU Cup, saying their poor preparation was responsible for their dismal performance.Apart from being unlucky in the competition, we did not prepare well. The WAFU Cup was different from the domestic league so we should have approached it differently. But these problems could be understood if we consider the effect of last season on the team.Meanwhile, in a dramatic turn of events, the Enugu club are reportedly making a move to replace Dike with former Enyimba coach, Okey Emordi.Emordi, who also resigned from his post, was in charge of the Coal City club in 2008 before leaving for the Peoples Elephant. The former coach of the home-based Super Eagles confirmed to SuperSport.com that Rangers had approached him but that he was considering offers from other NPL clubs.
