Non-performing staff face sacking 'EFCC

Published by Punch on Fri, 16 Dec 2011

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Thursday in Abuja said staff of the commission with declining productivity risked being sacked. The EFCCs Deputy Director of Operations, Mr. Ahmed Abdulrahman, said this during an interview at a media training/workshop for journalists on Economic Crimes and the Rule of Law, jointly organised by the commission and the International Press Centre and funded by the World Bank.Abdulrahman also defended the EFCC acting Chairman Ibrahim Larmodes statement during a courtesy visit on him by the Senate Committee on Drugs, Narcotics and Economic Crimes. He said, In fact, every leader is always looking foreward to succeeding in every organisation he leads. So reorganisation does not mean that he is sending people away and bringing angels. But definitely he has to do a kind of reappraisal to find out whom and who are better and in the process achieve our goals in this new resolve. After the reappraisal, those people that we find will out are not catching up will have to go. Then people that are ready and suitable will be brought into the system in this new resolution to achieve success.According to him, reorganisation will not centre on personnel alone but also involves its own system and methodology for achieving success. He said, One of the reasons for reorganisation is this seminar. This is reappraisal; we are going to re-evaluate our efforts and staff, funding and everything. It is going to be a kind of overhauling the commission. We are committed to exposing corrupt individuals in the society. Why are we still having problems in the educational sector' Why is it that there is unemployment' Why is it that even those who are employed are losing their jobs without being remunerated' This are as a result of corruption. We therefore want the media to partner with us so that we do not allow that destructive monster to kill our beloved country, Nigeria.Abdulrahman added, So having that in mind we felt that the first group we should contact since we cannot fight corruption alone is the media. But how could we succeed' We should do it togethertell the media how they could assist us and (have the media) tell us what we should do to assist us to enlighten the public on the crusade against graft.
