Ilupeju Day 2011: Apeju charges indigenes on self-help

Published by Tribune on Fri, 16 Dec 2011

As sons and daughters of Ilupeju-Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State gear up for Ilupeju Day 2011, the traditional ruler of the community, Oba Olaleye Oniyelu, has charged them to continue in their 'popular spirit of self-help.'Oba Oniyelu, the Apeju of Ilupeju, who made the call while speaking with the Community News in Ilupeju-Ekiti, also called on the government of Ekiti State to help the community to upgrade the water booster station there.Oba Oniyelu commended the indigenes of Ilupeju for their spirit of hardwork and patriotism, and urged them to continue in the spirit as this year's Ilupeju Day comes up, saying this was important as it had seen them construct various developmental projects in the town.'Sons and daughters of Ilupeju have contributed immensely to the progress of the town and I must state that Ilupeju is noted for self-help development. The palace in the town was built within four years by the people. They help themselves and it is said that 'Heaven helps those who help themselves.'So, with their reputation as people noted for self-help, I'm sure they would not relent in the quest to make the town better for all of us,' Oba Oniyelu stated. He added: 'I urge them to continue in that spirit, they should continue in the spirit of togetherness and unity. This is very important and I pray that the Almighty God will be with us.'On the part of the government, the monarch said 'now that the dry season has come, we want the state government to help us upgrade the water booster station built by the people many years ago,' explaining that 'the machines there now are outdated.'Oba Oniyelu said: 'If the government can help us put better pumping machines so that the water can come up, we shall be very grateful. Road construction has also caused damage to lots of the water pipes. So, we would like the government to help us replace the pipes, we shall be well for it.'The monarch also observed that electricity supply to the community could be better, saying 'the water we use in Ilupeju comes from Ero Dam and if there is no regular electricity, there is no way water can be effectively pumped to the booster station. The two go together.'According to him, 'it is also important to note that the electricity we use at Ilupeju and some other areas come from Omu-Aran. If we can be connected to the 133KVA in Ado, it will help make electricity supply better. We want the government to do that not for Ilupeju alone but Ekiti North Senatorial district.
