Football Legend, Ojebode Leaves Hospital, Thanks Nigerians

Published by Guardian on Sat, 17 Dec 2011

FORMER Nigerian international, Samuel Ojebode on Wednesday was discharged from the University College of Health (UCH) after 45 days of treatment of a heart-related ailment. The 67-year-old erstwhile skipper of the Industrial Investment and Credit Corporation (IICC) Shooting Stars (now 3SC) was admitted at UCH on October 31 and was there until Wednesday.A recuperating Ojebode told The Guardian yesterday that he would remain grateful to Nigerians for coming to his aid during this trying period.'I am now comfortable compared to what I have been experiencing when I was in the hospital. I want to thank Nigerians for their support and prayers because I really enjoyed their prayers during this miserable time. I thank God that I am alive today to thank them and what has happened to me. It was a big experience for me because I have never fallen sick before. But now I believe God is in control,' Ojebode said. The former board chairman of 3SC expressed appreciation to the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi for his timely intervention and other well-meaning Nigerians that came to his rescue during the period, saying, 'I am indeed very humbled by the generousity of Nigerians because their support came at the right time.'For Ojebode's wife, Morenikeji, the 45 days her husband spent in hospital was like hell, as it was tasking. 'I want to say that it was like hell for me because moving from the hospital to other places made life unbearable for the family. At several times, I fell from Okada (motorcycle) just to ensure things went well. I thank God that this has gone and my husband is now hale and hearty. But I wish to appreciate Nigerians for supporting my husband during this torrid period. I thank them for their prayers and support from all walks of life,' she said. She added: 'we thank the government of Oyo State, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alaafin of Oyo, Complete Sports, 3SC and kind-hearted individuals who ensured that my husband was not left to suffer. Their support came at the right time we needed it and this indeed has shown that Nigerians appreciate their heroes. For now, my husband is recuperating, but the doctors said he still needs another operation, which I believe by God's grace will not be a reality because God has taken over the whole situation.
