The Lord Shall Fight For You (II)

Published by Guardian on Sun, 18 Dec 2011

IN 2 Kings 6:24-31, the Bible says, 'Some time later, Ben-Hadad, king of Aram, mobilised his entire army and marched up and laid siege to Samaria. There was a great famine in the city; the siege lasted so long that a donkey's head sold for 80 shekels of silver, and a quarter of a cab of seed pods for five shekels. As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried to him, 'Help me, my lord the king!' The king replied, 'If the Lord does not help you, where can I get help for you' From the threshing floor' From the winepress'' Then he asked her, 'What's the matter'' She answered, 'This woman said to me, 'Give up your son so we may eat him today, and tomorrow we'll eat my son.' So we cooked my son and ate him. The next day I said to her, 'Give up your son so we may eat him,' but she had hidden him.' When the king heard the woman's words, he tore his robes. As he went along the wall, the people looked, and there, underneath, he had sackcloth on his body. He said, 'May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if the head of Elisha son of Shaphat remains on his shoulders today!'In this passage, we see the enemies of Israel waging war against the children of God and trying to make them starve. They might have said: 'Over their dead bodies would the children of God be happy'. Here, we refer to those who are waging war against your peace and happiness, those who have laid a siege, watching the way that you will go and frustrating every move that you take. What they have failed to realise is that they are boasting against people that God is backing. What a tragedy! Such enemies are playing with fire. You should always remember that a million demons would not stop God from doing what He wants. All you need to do is to obey God.The information might come in form of a news or instruction. Let us look at the story of the widow in 2 Kings 4:1-7. The instruction given to her by the man of God in 2 Kings 4:3-4: 'Go around and ask all your neighbours for empty jars. Don't ask for just a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side,' looked ridiculous but she obeyed. For your situation to change before tomorrow morning, news might come to you in a way you least expect. Just obey. It might be in the form of an instruction that will turn your life around. Expect a fresh instruction from the Almighty.Pastor Ogunorunyinka is the General Overseer, The Promised Land Ministries, Solution Ground, Surulere, Lagos.pastorseyiogunorunyinka@gmail.com
