Auto Crash Kills Five

BRIEFSFIVE persons yesterday were burnt beyond recognition along Abuja-Lokoja-Okene roadas a result of multiple motor accidents. The accident, which occurred at about 5pm involved two articulated vehicles and two J5 buses conveying kola nuts and tomatoes to Kaduna.An eyewitness said one of the trucks belonging to the Dangote Group with registration number Plateau XB 326 BLD had been stationary following a mechanical fault at night. The buses ran into the truck from behind, resulting in an explosion and subsequent burning of the buses and their occupants. Another oncoming articulated vehicle with registration number Kebbi XA 246 DRD also ran into the trailer. Sources say the survivors lie in critical condition at a hospital in Lokoja. Men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Kogi State Command, were seenat the scene controlling the flow of traffic and evacuating the charred remains.-Ralph omololu AgbanaCouncil Chairman In Fisticuffs With Speaker Over BenefitsKAZAURE local government council chairman, Alhaji Saleh Taki, has engagedthe speaker of his council, Alhaji Lawan Ado, in fisticuffs over severance benefits. An eyewitness at the secretariat said the incident followed series of meetings by councilors who had asked the chairman to pay monies owed them since October. The chairman was reported to have flared up and rained abuses on the speaker. The speaker, in turn, warned the chairman to stop insulting him publicly. The men held each other, tearing their clothes in a process that degenerated into an exchange of blows.-John AkuboTastee Fried Chicken Opens Shop At ApapaTASTEE Fried Chicken (TFC), a Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) in the country has opened a new outlet at Apapa, the nation's premier port, with a promise to render quality services to its customers. According to the Managing Director of TFC, Mrs. Olayinka Pamela Adedayo, the Tastee Group started business in August 1989 in Festac but expansion into Surulere in 1993, has brought new lease of life in the QSR culture in Nigeria. She said, over the years, the company had grown not only the brand, but the industry as well, bringing new ideas that have encouraged more investors, into the QSR sector in Nigeria.TFC engages in the processing of chicken into various delicacies such as crispy chicken and chicken topper salad.
