Published by Punch on Mon, 19 Dec 2011

The Managing Director, Sovereign Trust Assurance Plc, Mr. Wale Onaolapo, has assured the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers of its support and patronage.Onaolapo gave this assurance during the NCRIBs Members Evening meeting in Lagos .He said, The NCRIB is obviously a force to reckon with in the insurance industry in Nigeria and we at Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc are very much aware of this fact, which is why we have never ceased to be partners in progress with the council and member companies that make up the body. The STI boss said that the company was committed to professionalism and service excellence, adding that it would not compromise its stance on quality. He said that the firm was willing to partner with NCRIB in reducing and managing the challenge of outstanding premiums for businesses booked. This, he observed, was a very critical challenge that was greatly militating against the growth of the industry with attendant difficulties in meeting with operational obligations. He urged the brokers to join the insurance companies in creating awareness in the industry.Onaolapo said, As partners in progress, we are desirous to have the broking community work with insurance companies in the area of products development, based on hands on experience. These have culminated in a wealth of knowledge that insurance companies can tap from in deepening the penetration of insurance and insurance products in the Nigerian landscape. He disclosed that STI had set up a highly resourceful business development division, headed by an assistant general manager. This division, he noted, was responsible for new products development. As part of its support to the brokerage community, he called on operators to make use of this resource in fashioning out new products for clients. We have also put in place a work station in our Abuja area office with Internet facility purposely created to assist brokers, who are visiting the Federal Capital Territory to transact their business while in transit, Onaolapo said.
