Lagos ministry targets 100% performance

The Lagos State Ministry of Rural Development on Sunday said it was targeting 100 per cent performance for 2012 to sustain the state governments vision of integrated rural development to reduce unemployment and stem rural-urban drift.The commissioner in charge of the ministry, Cornelius Ojelabi, at the conclusion of a three-day retreat for its senior management staff, said development of rural communities was important to the government. He added that the community-driven projects were ways of fulfilling the governors electioneering promises to the people.He said the retreat with the theme, Evolving efficient integrated rural development strategy and reducing urban migration panacea for sustainable megacity status for Lagos State Government, would enable officials of the ministry to know governments thinking in relation to its rural communities.The commissioner said, We have to fashion out a way to improve the ministrys performance from the 97 per cent that we achieved this year.Government is spending huge money on training and capacity development to ensure that the staff does its work diligently and with sense of responsibility without any prompting from anybody.He said the retreat should make officers of the ministry to be proactive in 2012 and do better on budget performance.He said, The budget performance of Lagos State in the area of capital expenditure is much better than the Federal Government. This ministry alone scored 97 per cent in the area of capital expenditure.He challenged the staff to strive towards achieving 100 per cent performance in both the capital and recurrent expenditure in 2012.The commissioner said proper research and evaluation of the needs of the people and quality work delivery were keys to achieving the ministrys objectives.The acting Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Elizabeth Ashiru, promised that the officials of the ministry would do their work better and help move the state forward.
