Don urges action against rise in temperature

A UNIVERSITY teacher, Prof. Benjamin Ajuiwe Eheazu, at the weekend warned that the current global warming experienced in the country portends danger on the health and skin of the people, urging action against the situation.Delivering this year's Ahiajoku Lecture with the theme: 'Global Warming and Climate Change: A Sustainability Alert to Ndigbo (Onuru Kaduribe)', at Ahiajoku Convention Centre, New Owerri, at the weekend, the professor of Adult and Non-Formal Education at the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, described global warming as consistent increase in world temperature due to pollution of atmosphere, which portends danger to man and the environment.He expressed worry that like Asia and Europe, parts of Igbo land have lost human and material resources due to natural disaster such as flood, calling for urgent measures to handle the challenges.At the occasion attended by academics, top government officials, monarchs and local people, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State said since the Ahiajoku lecture began about 32 years ago, it had reawakened Igbo on the resuscitation of civilisation. The governor added that Imo State government under him would do its best to promote the cause of intellectual harvest series started by late Sam Mbakwe administration in 1979.
