Eaglets coaches reject 'meagre' salary

Published by Punch on Tue, 20 Dec 2011

The assistant coaches for Nigerias U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets, have rejected a 350,000-monthly pay, top officials have disclosed. The Eaglets chief coach is Manu Garba, while his assistants are Emmanuel Amuneke, Nduka Ugbade and Emeka Amadi.A top official told MTNFootball.com the coaches insisted their rating was above what was being offered. The official said, The head coach for the Eaglets is on N750,000 while his assistants are to be on N350,000 each, but they have turned down the offer. Both John Obuh and his immediate successor, Monday Odigie, received N150,000 a month as salary. Their assistants were on N40,000 allowances each a month. Samson Siasia of the Super Eagles was paid N5ma rate the federation has retained for Stephen Keshi. This rejection is believed to have stalled the start of a training camp for the countrys schoolboys as the assistant coaches are insisting on at least N500,000 a month.Three-time world champions, Nigeria have failed to qualify for the last two African Junior Championships. The Nigeria Football Federation are therefore hard pressed that this trend is reversed and that the countrys flag is hoisted at the next edition of the tournament slated for Morocco.
