Onome Sodje scores in seven-goal thriller

Defending champions, Floriana, started their defence of the UBET FA Trophy in Malta with an emphatic 6-1 win against second division side Luqa St. Andrews on Sunday. Their new Nigerian striker Onome Sodje scored the second. Floriana coach Michael Woods adopted the 4-4-2 formation, with Joseph Borg and Thomas Paris taking unusual positions on the defensive flanks while Ryan Darmanin and Sodje formed a twin attack.The Greens dominated the match from the start but great saves from Luqa goalkeeper Paul Psaila lasted for a little while.Floriana broke the deadlock through Germany 2006 World Cup Togo defender Eric Akoto, who headed home in the fourth minute to score the his first goal for the club.It was Sodjes turn to increase the tally seven minutes later when he jumped highest to head home from close range after a fantastic play involving Cassar, Doffo and Darmanin.The second half was no different with Ryan Darmanin scoring the third and fourth goals in the 66th and 71st minute respectively.Andre Grabowski added the fifth in the 77th minute before substitute, Clyde Borg, scored the sixth goal with a great shot from outside the box in the 89th minute. Luqa grabbed a consolation goal in added time through Laurence Vella whose great shot from outside the box ended the match.
