Pastor docked over N1.6m fraud

A 37-year-old pastor, JosephOlukaiyeja, was arraigned in Lagos, last Friday, for allegedly obtaining N1.6 million from two brothers, under false pretence.Olukaiyeja was docked at an Ejigbo Magistrates' Court on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud and stealing.He pleaded not guilty to the charges.The prosecutor, Inspector Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that the accused and one other still at large, committed the offence on January 16, at about 1.00p.m, at 33, Ladega Street Ipaja, Lagos State.Shonibare said that Olukaiyeja obtained the amount from two brothers, Akintunde and Akindele Akinloye.'The accused unlawfully obtained the sum of N750, 000 from one Akintunde Akinloye under the pretence of securing for him a Canadian resident visa.'He also obtained another N816, 800 from the brother of the first complainant, Akindele Akinloye, under the pretence of securing him a Canadian resident visa,' Shonibare said.He said that the accused absconded after collecting the money from the duo, until he was arrested on December 9, following a tip off.According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 390 (9), 419 and 516, Cap C17 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.Magistrate Maimunat Folami granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.The case was adjourned till January 16, next year, for mention.
