FRSC warns against reckless driving in Ibadan at Xmas

Published by Tribune on Wed, 21 Dec 2011

The Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr Godwin Ogagaoghene, has appealed to motorists in Ibadan North Local Government and its environs to see the 'Ember' months as the best period of the year.Commander Ogagaoghene was speaking in Ibadan at the kick-off of the 2011 'Ember Months' Road Safety Enlightenment Campaign organised by the Mokola Unit command at Mokola Roundabout, Ibadan, recently.According to him, 'most people like to tag the 'Ember' months with bad omen. Instead of curbing their excesses and shunning being reckless during the period, they prefer to forget all the traffic rules because they could not afford to be patient.'He, therefore, implored road users not to see the FRSC and special marshal officials as their enemies, 'they should endeavour to see them as people who were out to help them drive safely in order to celebrate the yuletide alive.'Commander Ogagaoghene also urged the regular and special marshals to be fair, firm and courteous in the discharge of their duties in order not to give the command a bad name.Earlier, the Mokola Unit Commander RS 11.34, Hajia Medinat Ishola, stated that 'aside embarking on aggressive and sustainable patrol operation to apprehend and penalise road traffic offenders during the 'Ember' period, the command is still reaching out to churches, mosques, motor-parks, schools and the media on the principles of safe driving and observance of road traffic regulations.
