Ige elected chairman of Lagos Country Club squash section

A RENOWNED sports marketing executive, Taye Ige, has been elected chairman of the squash section of the Lagos Country Club.The managing director of Hotsports Nigeria Limited succeeded Mike Adekoya, who held the coveted office for three terms of one year each. Also elected unopposed at the 2011 Annual General Meeting of the section were the former Entertainment Officer (now vice chairman) Demola Olusunmade, Cyril Ayemere (Secretary), former captain and now Entertainment Officer, Fred Udo-Akagha, and Shittu Suleiman (re-elected Financial Secretary).Ige, who becomes the 14th chairman of the section, has several illustrious predecessors, including Larry Ettah (2004-2005), Bajo Osinubi, Frank Ekeng, Akin George, Col. Ernest Onwudiwe and Tunde Philips.In his inaugural address, Ige, who had served the section in every management committee from his first year of membership, acknowledged the contributions of the previous leadership in making the squash section the pride of the club.He committed himself to leading his team in improving on the results of the past years, declaring that he sought the office of chairman guided by 'the need to make a difference.' He further assured: 'I know what our problems are and in the course of the next 12 months, we will be taking a number of steps to address them.'While it is true that we are number one in Lagos Country Club with world class playing facilities and an alluring ambience, they can be better. I tell you that we still have a lot to do to keep the flag flying just so that the labours of our heroes past would not have been in vain.
