Succour has come the way of some petty traders and undergraduates in the Lagos Central Senatorial district as Senator Oluremi Tinubu on Monday disbursed a whopping N29.64m to them.The amount represents N13m grants to 650 petty traders in five local governments and eight local council development areas in the constituency.Others are N10.4m scholarship grants to 26 successful undergraduates for four years and N6.24m to 624 unsuccessful applicants.At a town hall meeting with people of Lagos Central Senatorial District held at MUSON Centre, Lagos, Tinubu gave the beneficiaries the grants through Automated Teller Machine cards instead of cash.She said the ATM option was part of the measures to key into the Central Bank of Nigeria cashless policy.The town hall meeting witnessed many of her constituents who besieged the venue for the largesse.The senator said the grants were in fulfilment of her promise to touch the lives of the people in the constituency.Tinubu said, My first constituency initiative, the Post-Secondary School Scholarship Scheme that was launched on August 16 this year is a step towards empowering some of our constituencys brilliant but indigent youths for the future.Two beneficiaries from each of the five LGs and eight LCDAs in the constituency are to receive an annual sum of N100,000 towards financing their university education over a period of four years.In addition, the remaining 624 applicants will receive a one-off bursary award of N10,000 each towards defraying the cost of purchasing academic books.
