Caring for a BlackBerry

Published by Punch on Thu, 22 Dec 2011

Purchase a CaseThe portability that makes your BlackBerry an attractive device also makes it susceptible to a number of potential damage sources. Whether you accidentally drop the device when you try pick it up, slide it across a table to a friend, or toss it in anger, the outside of your BlackBerry can start looking fairly damaged in no time. A case, whether it is leather or plastic, provides a protective barrier around the BlackBerry, protecting it from dings, scratches and dents.Wear the BlackBerry on Your BeltNot every outfit is going to allow you to wear the BlackBerry on a belt, but if it is available, it is the safest way to carry your device. Carrying your BlackBerry around in your pocket or purse lets other items, like keys, rub up against the side of the BlackBerry causing unnecessary damage. There is also less of a chance of you dropping the BlackBerry as you undo it from a belt clip then there is if you are taking it out of a pocket or purse, especially if your pocket or purse is full of other items.Avoid Extreme HeatThe electronics inside your BlackBerry can survive some intense heat, up until the solder on the board melts at well over 300 degrees Fahrenheit. The plastics that surround the circuit board are not quite as durable. If you leave your device in extreme heat, like on the dashboard of a car during a sunny day, the plastics can warp after hours in the heat, causing visible damage to the device.Avoid MoistureWhen water touches an electrified circuit board, it could short out the circuits and destroy the board. Additionally, water or moisture can cause corrosion or rust to build up on the circuit board, impeding the flow of electricity and causing the device to stop working correctly. Avoid using your BlackBerry in situations where it is certain to get wet, like using it while it is raining. Also avoid keeping your BlackBerry in very humid conditions, like a bathroom while the hot water is flowing, as this moisture can also build up inside the device and cause issues.Backup and Reset the Device RegularlyThe software that runs your BlackBerry device is not something you generally have to think about, but over time it can develop problems that will slow your device down. Every few months, use the BlackBerrys built-in Wipe function to take the device back to its factory defaults. You can find the Wipe function in the general settings area of the security settings. If you backup your device regularly, which you should do every few weeks, you can put all of your information back onto the device immediately after a wipe.Source: www.eHow.com
