UNICEM's N5bn evacuation road'll be ready in 2012

The United Nigeria Cement Company on Wednesday said that a new 20-kilometre evacuation road built at the cost of N5bn for trailers conveying cement from its Mfamosing factory in Cross River State would be ready for use by the end of 2012.The company also said it had spent over N8bn on the provision of infrastructure, including the construction of the evacuation road, within the communities in its operational base, as well as health care services.The Managing Director, UNICEM, Mr. Didier Tresarrieu, who disclosed this to journalists at the companys plant in Calabar, said the evacuation road would link the Calabar-Itu; Mfamosing-Ikang and Oban-Ekang federal highways.He said building the cement evacuation road was one of the conditions the company agreed to with the Cross River State Government when assessing the feasibility of building a cement plant at Mfamosing.Already, laying of asphalt has started from the Odukpani end of the road, while construction work has reached an advanced stage on a stretch of over seven kilometres of the road.The new cement evacuation road construction started soon after the engineering design was accepted in September 2010, Tresarrieu said.
