Jimoh Ibrahim appointed envoy of Sao Tome and Principe in Nigeria

The Group ManagingDirector of the Global Fleet Group and Publisher of the National Mirror, Dr Jimoh Ibrahim, has been appointed the Honourary Consul of Sao Tome and Principe in Nigeria.His appointment followed a request to the Federal Government of Nigeria by the government of Sao Tome to appoint Dr Ibrahim in that capacity.The announcement of this momentous appointment was contained in a letter by the Nigerian Ambassador to Sao Tome and Principe, Ahmed Magaji, to Dr Ibrahim.Dated December 20, 2011, it reads: 'Following a request to the Federal Government of Nigeria by the government of Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe, indicating that country's intention to appoint you as Honorary Consul of Sao Tome and Principe in Abuja, I am pleased to convey to you the approval of the Federal Government of Nigeria for the appointment. The Sao Tome government has already been informed accordingly.'I am confident that you will bring your best efforts to bear on your new role for the purpose of further enhancing the cordial relations existing between our two countries.'By this remarkable achievement, Dr Ibrahim has become perhaps one of the few Nigerians in recent history to be appointed as a honourary envoy of another country in his home country.The appointment becomes a crowning glory for the self-made business mogul whose business interests are not just all over Nigeria, but are also now being felt all over Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the United States of America.He had started the year on a winning note with the commissioning of Energy Bank of Ghana in Accra in February, of which he is the chairman and sole financier. The bank is the first and only of such to be floated in Ghana, with a Nigerian financial muscle. The bank has since commissioned two more branches in Kumasi and Tema.Ibrahim also acquired the Oceanic Bank of Sao Tome, which has lately secured approval for rechristening as the Energy Bank of Sao Tome. The bank joins Ibrahim's growing business concern in that small, but oil-rich Island in the middle of the Atlantic. The NICON Insurance, Sao Tome and the Energy University of Sao Tome, which is the only university in the country, also belong to Ibrahim's Global Energy conglomerate.
