PDP leaders rally communities for House of Reps rerun election

Published by Tribune on Thu, 22 Dec 2011

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Irepo/Olorunsogo/Oorelope Federal Constituency have restated the readiness of the people of the constituency to vote for the party in the rerun of the House of Representatives election bound to take place in the constituency within the next three months, even as they stated that the party has benefitted rural communities in the constituency.Making this disclosure after a meeting of the officials and leaders of the party, some of the notable party leaders who spoke with Community News, reaffirmed that the people of the constituency would troop out enmasse to restore the mandate of Honourable Afees Jimoh Adelowo, whose election the court upturned following the omission of the Democratic Peoples' Party's candidate's name and picture from the ballot paper.According to Chief Jacob Adetoro, a notable leader of the party in Igbeti and Oke Ogun area, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) was flatly defeated in the constituency during the April 2011 elections. 'In Olorunsogo, there was never a time they got 25 per cent, ditto for Irepo. It was only in Igboho that we were head-to-head. There has been no change to that structure, the PDP is intact. We want our people to be aware of the rerun and be prepared; they should not be scared by the opposition's baseless utterances that they would clamp down on leaders and members of the party,' he said. The chairman of the party in Oyo North Senatorial District, Alhaji Yakubu Oladoja also stated that since nobody has left the party, the PDP remained the party to beat in the rerun election. In his own words, the leader of the party in Oorelope Local Government, Mr. Yusuf Sarafadeen Alani noted that the meeting was to strategise on how the PDP would win the constituency in the forthcoming election. 'Our people are 100 per cent prepared; we have been going around, mobilizing them to vote for the party. The people should not be scared because the constituency is a PDP stronghold and that is how it will remain,' he said.Alhaji J.S Amodu, the leader of the party Kisi also stated the readiness of the party members to vote for positive development and advancement which he said the PDP represents, even as he maintained that the party would reclaim its mandate anytime the election takes place.'Our people want a change, and that was why they voted for Hon. Afees Jimoh and the PDP. The PDP is set to positively impact on the communities in the constituency, and our people will go with the party any day,' said Alhaji Afees Tijani, another notable leader of the party in Irepo Local Government.
