Alapomu harps on self-help projects for community development

The Alapomu of Apomuland in Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Lasisi Olasiyan Afolabi-Ayeye 11, has described self-help projects as a way of assisting governments towards the development of various communities.The Alapomu made the observation while addressing people at this year's annual Apomu Day celebration which was held at ADC Grammar School, Oke-Ola, Apomu recently. Oba Afolabi stressed that every community should not be waiting for the government to assist it before assisting itself, saying, one must start from somewhere before calling on the government to take over."Individual community must ensure that it practises the attitude of communal efforts as an antidote to development. Heaven helps those who help themselves. We cannot leave everything for the government alone to do them for us, though, it is the duty of government to provide infrastructure for its citizenry, residents also must do something on their own part," the Alapomu stated.The traditional ruler further urged the people to donate generously towards the day as the fund would be utilised to develop the ancient town.Speaking at the event, the Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Honourable Najeem Salaam, congratulated residents of Apomu for celebrating the annual Apomu day.The Speaker further assured the people of Apomu that the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)-led administration in the state would not let them down in the area of distribution of social infrastructure that will uplift their standard of living.While speaking with Community News at the event, the member representing Isokan and Irewole State Constituency, Honour Maroof Olanrewaju Ajibola, said he was elated by the love of the people of his constituency not only to him, but to the party at large.He said: "Without the complete cooperation and support of my teeming supporters, I cannot achieve anything as their representative. On this note, my representation would continue to bring development to all and sundry.'Ealier in his address, the chairman, caretaker committee of Isokan Local Government Area of the state, Alhaji Azeez Akinleye, called for support of the people for the ACN-led administration in the state and assured that his tenure in office would always demonstrate physical development for the use of the community.At the annual events were the Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Honourable Salaam accompanied by other principal officers and some members of the House like the Asiwaju of Apomu, who was also the pioneer chairman of Apomu Day, Chief Olaitan Alabi; Colonel Falabi (retd) and his wife, the chairman, Irewole Local Government and his wife, Honourable and Mrs Sola Ajayi and the chairman caretaker committee, Isokan Local Government, Alhaji Azeez Akinleye; among others.
