Published by Tribune on Thu, 22 Dec 2011

A non governmental Organisation, the Global Help Trust Foundation, has started developing a community hospital in Ipe-Akoko, Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State, for the use of the people of the rural community. The hospital which is at an advanced level of completion, is designed to complement the effort of the state government at making health care delivery available to the people at the grass roots. The Chief Executive Officer of the organisation, Mrs Uche Daodu, however, tasked stakeholders to support Governor Olusegun Mimiko in his health care programme in order to meet up with other African countries in the Millennium Development Goals, (MDGs) 2015 target.According to her, it might be difficult for government to achieve the MDG components in the health sector without the cooperation of the people.Highlighting the achievements of the NGO in the rural areas of the state, she noted that the foundation had been in the fore front in the area of making adequate health care delivery available to the under privileged. She said, 'The under privileged is not only in terms of money, but also in terms of health, education, information and knowledge. We have a cassava processing factory proposal placed on our website for the sum of $40,000 awaiting donors at Aaye community.'In this year, we have impacted many lives positively with free medical eye screening, blood pressure and blood sugar screening, malaria tests and treatment bilateral cataract surgery, courtesy of American Business Owners Forum Incorporated, USA (ABOFI).'Daodu further stressed that in 2012, the foundation would continue in the various communities with the peer education training, health promotion activities with artisans and rural women while entrepreneurial skills development will be promoted in some selected communities. The chairman on the occasion, Dr Niyi Aje who is also a Dean at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, explained that Global Help was established to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.Aje urged stakeholders that it was not necessary that someone should own a foundation before they can invest in the lives of the people but they can as well support the foundation in helping the people. He stressed that the foundation had been involved in making positive impact in the area of needs and health. He added that the best investment was investing in the people.
