Africa Hockey Federation commends Heartland Queens, others

NIGERIA'S representatives in the Africa Hockey Cup for Club, Heartland Queens, have received commendation from the African Hockey Federation (AHF) for winning the championship in Lusaka, Zambia.The Nigerians defeated Sunrise of Zimbabwe 5-1 in the final of a one-sided competition in which they won all matches played, scoring 43 goals and conceding only two. Heartland had won last year's tourney in Ghana, proving that the win in Ghana was not a fluke and reinforced its dominance of African hockey.The AHF also praised Sharkia of Egypt for winning the men's version after beating Strathmore University of Kenya 4-2. The host and officiating officials also got kudos for doing good jobs.In the male event, one of Nigeria's representatives, Niger Flickers, failed to grab the bronze medal in the third place match against Police of Kenya, to which it lost 1-3.With the baton passed to Zimbabwe where the 2012 edition will be hosted, the Executive Board of the African Hockey Federation also conveyed its congratulations to Sharkia and Heartlands for winning their respective competitions and to the organisers and officials for a good job done.
