Cross River hails Guinness for sports development

FOR its contribution to Nigerian sports, the Cross River State Government has lauded the management of Guinness Nigeria Plc.Speaking through Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Joe Edet, the state however charged the company not to relent but keep up its good work.Speaking during the novelty match as part of activities for this year's Calabar Carnival, Edet said: 'We are very happy with the support from Guinness Nigeria and their involvement in sports development. We look forward to other corporate organisations emulating this gesture to improve sports in Nigeria.'Guinness bankrolled the finals of the novelty football match between the State Executive and the Local Council Team and it was played at the Abraham Ordia Sports Stadium of the University of Calabar. The event afforded the officials to socialise and mingle with one another.It was the executive team that lifted the trophy after beating the local council team 2-1 with Sunny Edeh of the executive team claiming the most valuable player and highest goal scorer awards.
