Veterinary medical association honours Fabunmi

THE Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) has conferred a merit award on its former President and Nigeria's first female Veterinary surgeon, Dr Alayode Akanke Fabunmi.Fabunmi received the award at the association's 48th Annual Congress held in Ilorin, Kwara State recently. A citation read at the presentation of the award noted: 'Dr Alayode Fabunmi worked tirelessly and contributed a great deal to the advancement of the profession and the organization. She restored professional pride to our great profession by organizing vibrant annual conferences, which increased participation and attendance from members. As a highly respected veterinary surgeon and public servant, she led the NVMA executives to get the attention of the Nigerian President, which raised the awareness of the contribution of the profession to the development of Nigeria.'Fabunmi attended the University of Ibadan (UI) from 1964 to 1967 and the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) from 1967 -1969 where she graduated with a degree of Doctor of Veterinary medicine. In 1975, she obtained a certificate in project planning and in 1981, a certificate in project Implementation Planning and Monitoring from the University of Ibadan and the United States Department of Agriculture respectively.
