Lagos education ministry holds Christmas carols

Published by Guardian on Thu, 22 Dec 2011

IT was a splash of humour at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Ikeja, recently as the entire staff of the Lagos State Ministry of Education and secondary school students held the 'Festival of Christmas Carols and Nine Lesson.' The event also featured presentation of various songs by artistes and African Carol by students from the various education districts in the state. On the significance of the Christmas season, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Omolara Erogbogbo, noted that due to the narratives that heralded the birth of Christ and how the world was salvaged by his birth, 'it is a period in which Christians all over the world experience divine visitation and peace. I advise everybody to be at peace with neighbours and show love to the less privileged. That is what Christ preached when he was in the world'.On the achievement of the ministry, she explained that the state government has renovated and newly constructed 'a great number of classrooms in the state primary and secondary schools,' adding that many schools have also witnessed improvements, especially in library usage and laboratories. She stated that due to the free education policy in the state, all the state public schools are overpopulated, necessitating the public private partnership being championed by the state government. The Presiding Chaplain, Mr. Olusegun Tanimonu, said 'the birth of Christ brought joy and peace to our chaotic world.Let us remember in his name, the poor and the helpless, the cold, the hungry, and the oppressed; the sick and those that mourn, the lonely and the unloved, the aged and the little children. Let us preach peace on earth and goodwill among the people.
