Aregbesola pledges to ensure safety of life, property

Published by Guardian on Thu, 22 Dec 2011

GOVERNOR Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State has assured the indigenes of the readiness of his administration to enhance safety of lives and property at all times. He said the current administration would not allow anything, including attack by hoodlums to disrupt the relative peace in the state and work against implementation of the six-point cardinal agenda by the Action of Nigeria (ACN)-led government. The governor gave this assurance during a courtesy visit by the new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone XI, Mr. Johnson Uzuegbuna. Aregbesola, who spoke against the backdrop of the recent attacks on some banks by armed robbers in the state, said the government would soon acquire sophisticated security equipment that would enhance the work of security agencies and thus make it impossible for hoodlums to take the peace of the state for granted.According to him, Osun is a state of peace, poised with creating wealth for its people in an atmosphere of peace.'We are doing everything within our power to ensure that nobody is able to harass, torment, provoke and disturb the peace of our people. We will in no distant future acquire sufficient and sophisticated security equipment that will make it impossible for hoodlums to undermine our peace.'Aregbesola commended the state police command for its cooperation with the government to stem the tide of crime.'We are happy that the police have been highly cooperative, calm and committed to ensuring that we maintain the atmosphere of peace, security and stability,' he said.Uzuegbuna expressed joy that crime rate is low in Osun compared to other states. He commended the administration of Aregbesola for rendering necessary assistance to the police to reduce criminal activities.'I am happy that crime rate is a bit low here compared to the other states. We will improve on that because there is no society that can develop without peace, and that is why we will do all in our power to see that the state is properly policed by way of putting in patrol teams, intelligence and friendly policing.'We also note your assistance to the police command, because I have been told about your assistance in terms of provision of logistics and the rest. We want you to do more to assist us more than what you have been doing,' Uzuegbuna added. The AIG, while addressing men and officers at the state police command, urged them to brace up to the current security situation in the country, adding that authorities would do everything necessary to encourage them.
