The election of Captain Idirs Wada (rtd) and Arc Abayomi Awoniyi indicates the status quo in Kogi State remains as the ruling party would continue to call the shot as far as governing the state is concerned.The governor-elect has enormous task in restoring the confidence of the people of the state. Before the election, the morale of the civil servants in the state was at its lowest ebb, considering the non-implementation of most of the agreements reached with the state government.The primary schools in the state lost a whole term without the pupils writing the end of year examination, due to strikes. Lokoja as the state capital could be described as one of the worst state capitals in the country. The capital that cannot boast of functional street lights like its counterparts in the country. The state capital could not boast of good dualised streets and power in the state is not constant in spite of the two power stations in Ajoakuta and Geregu which are supposed to bring relief to the state.The governor-elect and his deputy have a great task of developing the state if one considers they are coming from private sector where they exceled in their chosen careers.The state is blessed with natural and human resources begging for exploration to boost its economic base, Kogi State's financial status is not anything to write home about.The State Civil Service is a cesspool of corruption, where state civil servants loot the state treasury with impunity. The governor-elect should overhaul the state civil service, if he wants good result for his government. It's only in Kogi State that civil servants are fond of building mansions, petrol stations and hotels with the loot from the state government.Kogi State has been described as the third poorest state in the country and this has not gone well with all the stakeholders who sacrifice for the realisation of Kogi dream.The state needs to move forward like other states in the country. Youth unemployment, provision of agricultural subsidy to help farmers to produce food should be encouraged. Teachers in primary, secondary and higher institutions should be encouraged to give their best for improvement of education in the state.The PDP's victory was made possible by the last move by Mr. President to all the stakeholders to forget their deferences to ensure victory of the party in the state.Also, ACN that came second in the governorship election did not have a good structure on ground to fight the ruling party, in sipte of the hype of their governorship candidate whose popularity has declined in the state, despite his much- talked-about achievement while in office.The people of Kogi State look up to the incoming government of Wada and Awoniyi to restore the glory of the state. Also, one can commend the out-going government of Governor Ibrahim Idris for improvement in some areas.
