Holland seeks EFCC's assistance on fraud probe

HOLLAND on Thursday in Abuja sought the assistance of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in the investigation of some fraud-related cases.The Dutch Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Bert Ronhaar, said this during a visit to the acting Chairman of the commission, Mr. Ibrahim Larmode.A statement by the EFCC spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, quoted Ronhaar as saying that Dutch government would be seeking the intervention of the EFCC in the investigation of some organised crime cases.The envoy congratulated Lamorde on his appointment, but lamented that the warm relationship between Netherlands Police and the EFCC went sour in the last few years.He however assured of a renewed commitment to reviving existing links in the overall interest of both countries.Konhaar promised to table before the Dutch government a request to support the EFCC with equipment and training programme to improve on its capacity in handling organised crimes.He assured Lamorde that the EFCC officials would be accommodated in a capacity building programme for law enforcement officers scheduled for the Netherlands next year.Lamorde thanked the envoy for his countrys offer of assistance to the EFCC, saying however that should the need arise to have some of the training programmes in Nigeria, the EFCC had excellent training facilities at its Research and Training Institute in Karu, Abuja.According to him, the X-ray equipment that extracts information from telephone which was installed in the Lagos zonal office of the commission, was donated to the EFCC by Holland.The EFCC boss urged the envoy to put aside all issues in the sour relationships in the last few years and renew ties with the commission.He said, It is a new dawn at EFCC; things are going to be done differently in this era, I can assure you. Your coming, for me, marks a renewal of cordial and lasting relations. Whatever issues we had in the past should be disregarded; formal and good relations should be restored.
