Thieves raid Crouch's mansion

Published by Tribune on Fri, 23 Dec 2011

SICK soccer star, Peter Crouch and his model wife Abbey came home from hospital to find a gang ransacking their mansion.Four burglars fled with 100,000 of jewellery, watches and Christmas presents as the couple drove up to their 4.5million home.Lanky England forward Crouch had just been tested for meningitis.A source said of the couple: "They were shaken up by this ' it is not how you want to start Christmas."Abbey, who had been feeling poorly herself, called doctors when 6ft 7ins Crouch fell ill too.Bosses at Stoke City insisted their 10million summer signing from Spurs should be taken to hospital in case he had brain bug meningitis.Crouch, 30, was kept in overnight but tests showed that he had actually caught winter vomiting bug, norovirus, from his wife.Abbey had left their rented Cheshire home to pick the striker up from hospital. But while she was out the raiders broke in through a kitchen window. The source said: "The men weren't able to take heavy items because they were disturbed, but they left the place ransacked."It was the second time Crouch had been burgled. In 2006 thieves struck while he was playing a game for Liverpool. Tuesday evening's raid came just as Abbey was recovering from her illness. On Saturday she wrote online: "Can't stop throwing up. Feel sooooo bad x."
