Capital vote leads Ekiti's N99bn budget

FOR Ekiti State government, development of infrastructure would take priority next year as Governor Kayode Fayemi presented a budget estimate of N98.99 billion appropriation bill to the State Assembly for 2012.Tagged 'Budget of Delivery', the governor appropriated 55 per cent, N53.3 billion for the capital expenditure, while N45.69 billion was earmarked for the recurrent vote.Fayemi, who presented the appropriation bill before the legislators aftercommissioning the ultra-modern assembly complexin Ado Ekiti, earmarked N25.7 billion, representing a 26 per cent of the budget, to the development of infrastructure in the state.Education sector takes the second lead with an allocation of N19.1 billion, representing 19 per cent of the budget,while N8 billion was earmarked to the health sectorin the 2012 fiscal year.The Governor, who assured of the full implementation of the budget to better the lots of Ekiti citizens, said N1 billion would be expended on the continuation of the social security scheme for the elderly in the next year appropriation.He disclosed that the N20 billion raised from the capital market by the state government would be expended on the provision of roads and completion ofother ongoing capital projects across the 16 council areas of the state.Fayemi reiterated that the budget was packaged in a realisable way to give economic direction to the state and add value to the lives of people.On the new House of Assembly complex, which was commissioned yesterday,Fayemi hinted that it would offer more convenience to the lawmakers and enhance effective performance of theirstatutory duties to the people.'The new assembly complex has 52 sitting capacity within the hallowed chambers and about 78 offices for the lawmakers and other public officers of the House. With these, there will be more convenience in the discharge of your duties,' he said.The Speaker of the House, Adewale Omirin, assured that the budget would be adequately monitored to ensure full compliance to the implementation of all the estimates therein.
