SPAN tasks members on supply of standard equipment

THE Scientific Products Association of Nigeria (SPAN) has tasked its members on the need to ensure the supply of quality and standard equipment with a view to improving on the technological terrain of the economy.The President of the association, Mr. Gbolade Famoriyo who stated this during the inauguration of new SPAN executives said that bringing quality products into the country and supplying institutes and institutions was not enough.Famoriyo said that members must ensure that equipment supplied and installed were made to work through planned maintenance culture. He listed some of the challenges confronting the group to include lack of total commitment by members, poor regulation and control of supply of science equipment chemicals, lack of dependable statistical database and supply of substandard equipment and enjoined all suppliers to register with the association so as to monitor defaulters.In his address, the Director-General of the Nigeria Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT), Dr. Folorunso Ijagbone expressed regrets that the system was collapsing owing to the supply of substandard products and assured of the institute's readiness to give necessary support for the smooth running of SPAN.The General Secretary, SPAN, Mr.Ayeni Olufemi restated the organisation's readiness to train and retrain members and warned of plans to invoke the necessary disciplinary action against any erring member who indulged in any act of insubordination.
