AIG warns policemen against land, other matters

HENCEFORTH, any policeman in Zone 6, Calabar, found to have indulged in civil and land matters, extortion, unnecessary and prolonged detention of suspects, will be severely dealt with, the AIG, Alhaji Saidu Daya, has warned.And to ensure that all the police commands in the zone practise the profession in line with the principles and procedures of community policing, the zonal command will incorporate members of the zonal and state police community relations committees in intelligence and information gathering.Daya, who spoke during a visit to Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State, said officers and men under the zone would be retrained and reoriented to upgrade the standard of their performance professionally.According to him, vehicular and foot patrols and traffic control within Calabar metropolis and other major towns of the state would be intensified to achieve the desired objectives of crime-free Cross River State.He noted that despite the state government's continuous assistance, logistics problems are still experienced in the areas of operational motor vehicles and communication gadgets such as transmitter base sets and walkie-talkie. He called for more assistance in this direction.The AIG said he was impressed with the existing cordial relationship between the state government and the Police Command, which has brought about the current prevailing peace. He commended the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Samson Wudah, for the existing security arrangements put in place.Responding, Imoke described the police as a part and parcel of the state that partners in providing security and protection, as well as contributing to the state's position as destination for tourism and business. He assured Daya of a cordial working relationship to realise his aspiration.Imoke assured the police of support in the supply of equipment and gadgets to enhance their services of ensuring peace and security.
