Shettima dissolves Borno local councils

GOVERNOR Kashim Shettima of Borno State yesterday dissolved the27 local council caretaker committees and councillors, following the expiration of their six-month tenure on December 20, 2011 and in accordance with the Local Government Amended 2006 Law.The dissolution, which takes immediate effect, was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Local Government and ChieftaincyAffairs, Baba Kaka Bashir Garbai, and made available to The Guardian in Maiduguri.The statement directed the affected caretaker committee chairmen to hand over to their respective local council secretaries on or before Friday, December, 23, 2011.
