Taiwo needs prayers in Milan ' Taribo

Published by Punch on Sun, 25 Dec 2011

Former AC Milan centre-back Taribo West has backed compatriot Taye Taiwo to become a hit at the Rossoneri but says the left-back needs prayer to survive his trying time at the club. The Nigeria defender has made only three Serie A appearances for Milan this season following his move from Marseille in the summer, and is said to be unsettled at the San Siro. While West left French side Auxerre for Inter Milan in 1997 and became an instant hit at the San Siro leading to rivals Milan snatching him from their bitter rivals, Taiwo has struggled to impress coach Massimiliano Allegri despite also arriving from France on a free. He has managed just four appearances this season with Allegri at a point reported as ready to overhaul the player in January. However, West believes the former Gabros player can overcome initial problems to become a hit at the San Siro.I think its a psychological problem because sometimes its not easy to switch from one nation to another and adapt easily to a new culture of football, West said.I remember when (Zinedine) Zidane switched from Juventus to Real Madrid. It took him almost six months to adapt to Spanish football. So, Taye is passing through that process and we should pray for him so that they dont offload him in the January transfer window because we need players like him that the younger players can look up to as models.Again we dont want him to leave Milan because we dont have many players playing for the big clubs. I believe he is going to claim that position and excel in his career.
