Stakeholders Commend P&G On Introduction Of Safeguard

PROCTER & Gamble has introduced Safeguard, a new antibacterial soap into the market. At the formal launch of the product and the Champions of health school programme meant to reiterate the fight against germs, students of Chrisland School Opebi held a walkathon, pledge and handwashing session with dignitaries which included the General Secretary of the Paedatrics Association of Nigeria, Dr Ekanem Ekure.According to Manoj Kumar, the company's Managing Director, ''the introduction of Safeguard in Nigeria expands P&G's existing educational programs. The Safeguard Champion of Health school program aims to touch over a million children in Nigeria. The program aims to reach children across the nation with information on how to guard against preventable diseases like diarrhea and pneumonia through hand washing''. he Company's Associate Marketing Director, Mrs. Ehinomen Ojemen also stated that Safeguard effectively removes millions of germs from the skin's surface unlike ordinary soaps and prevents the re-growth of skin germs for up to 12 hours after washing with its' unique formulation. It is in this light that Safeguard and the African Medical Association (AFMA) has embarked on the Champions of Health Schools Program initiative aimed at educating and promoting proper hand washing culture amongst children as a measure to curbing the transmission or infection of transmittable diseases.Assistant Director, Lagos State Health Education office, Mrs. Omowunmi George representing the Lagos State Commissioner for Health at the launch greatly commended Procter & Gamble for promoting the handwashing culture and in effect good hygiene practices. She noted the initiative is in line with the state government's health policy on promoting and encouraging healthy and hygienic practices amongst the citizenry.Deputy Director Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mr. Abiodun Babatunde, who represented the State's Commissioner for Education, commended the Safeguard Champions of Health school Programme as a step in the right direction. He added that by promoting proper handwashing culture through the health programmes, P&G and Safeguard are re-iterating and encouraging children to inculcate the right hygiene values from an early age.
