JULIUS Agwu is high on top of his career as humorous merchant; and stylish personality. He is one of the few artistes who add extra effort, not just to their routines, but their looks.Whether on the red carpet, the stage, in his musical video or other occasions, Julius comes out in very fine dresses, and most times; favouring skinny ties and snug fitting suits. He says, 'when we started out in this industry, a lot of people did not pay much attention to their looks and for that reason, they weren't taken seriously. Considering my height, I knew that if I stayed that way, I would be lost in the crowd, so I had to make a conscious effort to stand out all the time in my comedy as well as my dress sense. I knew I needed to be a role model to people who had the gift and would want to join the business; they needed to see that people who do comedy are also enlightened and fashionable.'This goes to say, in spite of your height, you can always have an edge style; get some other tips from Julius's style.Add valueJulius believes entertainment, especially comedy, has gone beyond cracking people up, but also adding value to them. He advises entertainers to have it at the back of their mind, how they want to be remembered by their fans. Your appearances play an important role; a lot of fans and people want to mimic their role models, in one way or the other, especially how they dress. He says, 'all these thoughts come together to inform how I look and the way I dress on and off the stage.'Be an authority'These days, I'm a bit more level headed about my appearances; there's a level you get to in the fashion world and you become an authority. People start admiring anything you wear, because of your consistency in churning out great looks all the time; they would believe you can never go wrong,' he says. Have power dresser as role modelsJulius admires Tony Elumelu. 'He is actually my number one favourite. He is a power dresser.' Other stylish men he admires are Dr. Eyimofe Atake Roberts, Korede of Fusion, Darey Art Alade, Mai Atafo, Kunle Bakare, D-banj, Tony Rapu and Jay Jay Okocha.Let it fitClothes need to fit you perfectly, no matter the height or the number of pounds. Clothes should look like they are actually part of the body, an expressive continuation, if you want. Look at clothes as a body part that needs to be in proportion with the rest of your body. Short or tall, this is the most important rule. Julius loves skinny jeans and fitted tops, suits and blazers. Vertical stripes do the wonders For your height, do more of vertical stripes because it makes you look taller; avoid horizontal stripes and patterns. When shopping, have it in mind that any vertical elongation is your friend. Knowing this trick still doesn't mean you have to wear striped shirt, because you might not make that good impression. In fact, some people will instantly spot that you are short and wearing a stripped shirt to compensate for your height. Just like the humour merchant, wearing accessories that have vertical elongation such as suspenders, ties and casual shirts with unique buttons, would do the trick.Other fashion pieces you can wear include a vest and a shirt of roughly the same colour. Sleeveless vest will 'create' those two vertical lines near the shoulders; wear pinstripe suits and other outfits that have subtle vertical stripes.Wear the same colour (or shades) from top to bottomWhen you see Julius wearing the same colour from head to toe you wonder why. Simple, monochromatic outfits can give you a big hand in your quest to look taller. When someone looks at you, their gaze tends to move from up to the bottom and they subconsciously decide how short or tall you really are; that way, you want to 'trick' them into believing that you have a few extra inches.Wear brighter coloursVivid colours make you stand out more. This will make you seem bigger. Julius says, 'I like bright colours and I have a preference for red.'Of course, the range of bright colours you can wear is limited if you are planning on doing top to bottom. Choose the ones you like and make sure they contrast nicely with your skin tone.Wear short hairDo not be fooled by the fact that long hair will elongate your face. In most cases, it will only make it look wider. Instead, go for a shorter hairstyle and raise it up with some gel. You will gain 1-2 inches by doing this.It has to be one or two-button blazers It is important to know that blazers with three-buttons and more usually have less elongated lapels. Go for one or two button blazers. They are more stylish anyway and are the preferred choice for most men. Wear V-necksThe V-neck will elongate you. The deeper the V, the better the effect. This goes both for v-neck sweaters and vests. Stay slim Julius has been able to maintain his slim figure, sometimes, you wonder whether he has a regular gym routine; surprisingly, he doesn't. You imagine he is blessed because that is great for his height' He says, 'I don't gym to look fit, I have gym at home, but I don't use It.' It is important to know that extra fat on your belly and hips will only widen you. So, if you are not as blessed as Julius exercise regularly; and you will not only look taller, but healthier too. Don't wear belts that contrast too much with your clothesWhile belts are very stylish if you know how to match them with your outfit, you should avoid using them to make contrast. This will make you look shorter. 'One of the things I consider as fashion faux pas is wearing brown belt on black shoes,' he says. Wear hats We know Julius loves hats. In fact, this accessory can instantly add a few inches to your height.SunglassesEyes are the irreplaceable and magnificent blessing of God. It is important for everyone to protect it from dirt and ultra violet rays with trendy sunglasses. Julius considers sunglasses as his favourite accessories.
