Local Council Boss Gets Impeachment Notice

Published by Guardian on Sun, 25 Dec 2011

A SEVEN-DAY impeachment notice has been served on the chairman of Langtang North local government council, Mr. Brian Dadi, by the legislative arm of the council over alleged excesses and misappropriation of council funds.Reacting, Dadi denied he was served any impeachment notice. Describing the allegations as 'baseless', he said: 'There should be evidence. All the allegations are hearsay. I was expecting to see that every allegation is attached with evidence to prove their points but there is nothing like that.'The impeachment notice was signed by 15 out of the 18 legislators in the council, including their leader, Mr. Nimdal Gambe. Some of the allegations, according to the notice, include inflation of contract funds; disappearance of N36million, set aside for the payment of health workers in March 2011; disappearance of another N30million in July this year, and a Peugeot car among others.A group, Concerned Tarok Youths at the weekend condemned the notice, saying the allegations 'are baseless, unfounded and do not hold water.'Spokespersons for the youths, Domfa Nandul and Rindap Pontim, said: 'We will not fold our arms and watch some selfish politicians distract him (Dadi).'The group said it is only concerned about development and progress of the council 'and not speaking for the embattled chairman.'It said: 'Upon receipt of the impeachment notice, we immediately embarked on independent fact-finding and discovered that some of the allegations are baseless and unfounded.
