Multiple Bomb Blasts: Gaidam Imposes Curfew

A DUSK to dawn curfew has been imposed by Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State.The move follows multiple bomb blasts in Damaturu and Potiskum by the Boko Haram sect on Thursday and Friday.The attacks claimed the lives of about 62 persons, including seven policemen and two soldiers.Information about the curfew, which commences from 7pm to 6am daily, is contained in a press statement, signed by Special Adviser, Abdullahi Bego.The statement reads in part: 'The security agencies and the state government are doing everything necessary to ensure law and order and the protection of life and property in the state.'It called on people in the state to cooperate with security agencies to restore peace.Soldiers from the 244 Reece Battalion Nguru were deployed to Damaturu on Thursday to reinforce the combined team of the police and soldiers battling theSect.In a telephone interview with The Guardian yesterday, Yobe State police commissioner said: 'The attack led to the killing of seven of our men and officers, while seven policemen sustained various gunshot wounds in their limbs. This is in addition to two other soldiers shot dead on Thursday night.'Spokesman of Joint Task Force (JTF), Lt. Col Hassan Mohammed said multiple blasts and attacks on three churches in Maiduguri claimed the lives of two people.Thursday's blasts went off simultaneously between 6pm and 7pm in Bulunkutu, Zajiri and Dala wards of the metropolis.
