ATM: Access Bank obtains payment card security certificate

IN response to the Central Bank of Nigerias directives on Automated Teller Machines operations and the need to combat card fraud in the country, Access Bank Plc has obtained a Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard Certification.The bank, in a statement said it engaged the services, of a renowned security assessor and member of the PCI Security Standard Council, Kuppauswamy PSG & Company Chennai for implementation of the payment card data security project, making it the first Nigerian and only bank in West Africa to have obtained the certificate.The Chief Information Officer, Access Bank, Mr. Tunde Coker, said, By subjecting ourselves to this rigorous certification exercise, we seek to improve the security of our card payment process and platform, create the desired confidence in our customers by protecting them from loss of any form that may arise from using our platforms or via our processes.This corporate action is a demonstration of our support for regulatory strategy for promoting the payment system in Nigeria.The Director, Banking and Payments System Department, CBN, Mr. Gaius Emokpae, described the feat as outstanding and encouraged the bank to keep its systems, platforms and processes continuously updated, secured and safe. He advised other payment service providers in the industry to do the same in the interest of Nigerias National Payment System and the consumers as the sector strives to be the financial hub in Africa.The Deputy Director, CBN, Mrs. Tokunbo Martins, said the bank had enlisted Nigeria in the exclusive league of countries whose financial system was PCIDSS certified.Martins, who doubles as the President, Information Systems Audit and Control Association, a nonprofit, global association that engages in the development, adoption and use of globally accepted practices for information systems, said the development would help curtail fraud perpetuated using ATM machines.Meanwhile, the bank awarded 15 individual and 15 corporate customers with charges-free certificates. It noted that the customers, by virtue of the certificate, would henceforth be exempted from the payment of all forms of bank charges of the Deposit Money Bank for life.
