The Premonition Former NBA Player Jay Williams Had Before His Near-Fatal Motorcycle Accident (VIDEO)

Published by Huffington Post on Thu, 12 Mar 2015

Jay Williams, former Duke superstar and national player of the year, was just beginning the career he had always dreamed of when a devastating motorcycle accident changed everything. In June 2003, the point guard had just finished his rookie season with the Chicago Bulls when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a utility pole in Chicago. The accident immediately ended his career and nearly took his life. Williams severed a main nerve in his foot, fractured his pelvis, dislocated his knee and suffered internal bleeding. After 13 surgeries, 100 staples in his left leg and hours of physical therapy, Williams regained the use of his leg but was unsuccessful in his attempts to return to the NBA.Though he didn't know what it meant at the time, Williams says he had a dream about his accident years before it happened. In the above clip with his upcoming interview on "Super Soul Sunday," Williams tells Oprah about his premonitory vision."I was 17 years old," Williams says. "I was about to play my first college basketball game at Madison Square Garden. And I'm from Jersey, so that's what you dream of playing, the Mecca of basketball."The anticipation was overwhelming, and Williams says he couldn't fall asleep that night. "I was fidgety, I was anxious," he says. "Couldn't wait to play my first game."When he finally nodded off, Williams says he began to dream that he was spinning around and around, non-stop. "Almost to the point where it got me dizzy," he says. "And when I finally stopped spinning, I looked up and I saw a red fire hydrant. And the crazy thing about that is that you fast forward about five years, 21 years old, and all of a sudden now I'm actually laying on the ground with my chest on the pavement as if I'm laying on my stomach. My legs on top of each other as if I'm laying on my side up on the curb, staring at a red fire hydrant after I'd just spun around."Oprah's full "Super Soul Sunday" interview with Williams about finding one's purpose after losing it all airs Sunday, March 15 at 11 a.m. ET on OWN.
