Subsidy not problem

Published by Punch on Tue, 27 Dec 2011

Is fuel subsidy the problem of this country' Why do we do things out of selfish reasons to the detriment of this nation' Why is fuel subsidy the bone of contention in the middle of the security crisis that the country is in' Please I have one important question to ask our leaders: Has there been fuel subsidy in the first instance and if there has been, why should the masses pay for the failures of our leaders' How many OPEC countries export their crude to refine it' We are tired of this promise and failure attitude of our leaders. Some years back, one of the former presidents told us that they would remove toll gates and increase fuel price to enable them to repair the roads but today the roads of this country have claimed the lives of innocent Nigerians. Those toll gates were demolished at some ridiculous amount, now another government is planning to re-introduce these toll gates. Our leaders are not transparent and sacrificial like those who fought for our independence, those whose names are written in the hearts of generations that have lived, those that are living and generations unborn. Please, we are tired of the type of leaders we are producing today, our patience is almost running dry and we are ready to do anything to defend this nation. I also want our leaders to know that they cannot impose the removal of fuel subsidy on us, a good leader talks with his or her people, please this is democracy and not a military regime. In case we are forgetting what democracy is, it is the government of the people, for the people and by the people. If the government wants to subdue us like some Arab leaders are doing to their people, then we are ready to defend our country with our lives. Soldier go Soldier come barracks will remain.RitaAjayi,5, Lasokun Street,Gbekuba, Ibadan,Oyo State
