Risonpalm to provide 3,000 jobs 'Amaechi

RIVERS State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has said the leasing of the state-owned Risonpalm to a private company will provide about 3,000 jobs for the people of the state.Amaechi, who made this remark at the 191st Convention of the Ogbakor Ikwerre Cutural Organisation in Emohua on Sunday, disclosed that the state government was planning to acquire 10,000 hectares of land to revive the rice farm in the area.The governor said this was necessary to boost youth employment and also create an economy that would be able to feed the people.The new owners will replant. It is not machines that will plant, it will be human beings. The owners have said when they finish about 3,000 to 4,000 workers will be employed.We will revive the rice farm in Rumuewhor which was abandoned. We need the farm to produce rice. While we shall be employing as many people as possible to work on the farm we shall also be creating an economy that can feed the people, Amaechi stressed.On roads, he said though many roads had been completed within his first tenure, more road contracts would be awarded in the state.According to him, the Ada George road and the Obiri Ikwerre Flyover will be completed and ready for use in the early part of next year.On education, Amaechi said most of the children in the state were on scholarship overseas, assuring that his administration will sustain the development in the state.Earlier, the President-General of Ogbakor Ikwerre, Chief Sampson Agbaru, said Rivers people were satisfied with the achievements recorded by the Amaechi-led administration.Do not look back in your race to make Rivers state great, to improve the level of development, unity and security of Nigeria and to be the pride of Africa and giant in the world, Agbaru added.
