Dike beats Eguavoen to 3SC job

Published by Punch on Tue, 27 Dec 2011

Shooting Stars Sport Club have appointed former Enugu Rangers coach Alphonsus Dike to manage the team when the new Nigeria Premier League season begins in January. The former coach of the Golden Eaglets replaces Fatai Amoo who left the post after talks on his salary broke down.Dikes proposal to return the Oluyole Warriors to winning ways was considered as the best ahead of three others submitted by former Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen, former Bukola Babes coach Festus Allen and former Golden Eaglets coach Monday Odigie.A source in the club told our correspondent on Monday that Dike was selected by Governor Abiola Ajimobi at a special meeting with the states Commissioner for Sports Dapo Lam-Adesina and the club management on Sunday. The meeting finished late on Sunday but they all agreed on the choice of Dike based on his proposal and requests. The government has also promised to assist him in signing quality players ahead of the new season, the source said.Although the club planned to unveil Dike on Monday, he had yet to be contacted by 3SC as at press time.Dike said, The last time I spoke with the club was during the interview. If Ive been selected, thats good because I believe my proposal can lift the club next season.3SC are a decent side with history and great followers. Itll be an opportunity for me to be part of their success story. The Ibadan club barely escaped relegation last season, finishing 15th in the log with 47 points, three points better than the relegated teams.
