Dream Team star dumps Nigeria for Sudan

REJECTED Nigerian born Sudan based, Ikechukwu Francis may have made up his mind to dump the country of his birth and opt to play for Sudan.In fact, the stiker is likely to don the colours of the Sudanese national team at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations billed to commence next month.Apparently jolted by the refusal of former coach of the U-23 side Austin Eguavoen to include him in the squad to the CAF U-23 tourney held in Morocco, Ikechukwu said he was looking forward to featuring for Sudan.The Ahly Shandi of Sudan forward who climed that he was unfairly ignored by the Dream Team handlers said he was excited with his progress in Sudan and fancies the chance of representing the north African country at the 2012 AFCON to be jointly staged by Equitorial Guinea and Gabon."The chance to represent Sudan at the Nations Cup is good for me because I was dropped from Nigerian U-23 team when it was obvious I should be in the team,"Ike-chukwu told MTNFootball.com.The striker who scored for the Dream Team in preparatory game to the Morocco tourney revealed that his compatriots in the Sudanese league, Kelechi Osunwa, Sherif Sule and Isaac Malik were also being considered by for places in the Sudanese team ahead of the Nations Cup.Ikechukwu who faulted the choice of players for the national team by Nigerian coaches, saying that until merit is used to select players, things will not change, said he had always wanted to play for the country but will have no choice than to change his mind due to the present situation.
