Published by Tribune on Tue, 27 Dec 2011

THE National Association of NigerianStudents (NANS) has condemned the heinous attack on churches and waste of innocent lives on the Christmas Day by the violent Islamic Sect, Boko Haram.NANS President, Comrade Dauda Mohammed in a statement in Abuja on Monday, said the student body received with great shock like other Nigerians, the news of the sad incidence of bombing 'across our Nation at a time that Christian faithful were celebrating the Christmas festival'.Mohammed said the act of terrorism was most worrisome and condemnable when the attacks that were targeted at the worship places on the Christmas day which led to the loss of several lives of Innocent Nigerians. He said: 'It is unfortunate that we are failing as a Nation in our effort to tackle the challenges being posed daily by these groups. We see the growing security challenges as having gone beyond the action of a common illiterate-dominated Boko Haram sect but rather gone more sophisticated owing to the nature of their recent attacks even on our Nations security formations.'While restating our earlier call for the immediate convocation of National Confab on National Security, we want to also urge the Federal Government to unravel further every suspected sponsor of these terrorist groups and ensure that they are appropriately brought to Justice.'While sending our condolence to the families of the deceased, we want to appeal to all Nigerians to henceforth cooperate with the relevant security agencies and more importantly be more vigilant especially at this moment of our National security challenges. Eternal vigilance is the price for liberty'.
