Tasks force locks up illegal medicine stores in Obalende

The Lagos State TaskForce on fake drugsand illegal patent medicine stores has stormed Obalende in Eti-Osa Local Goverenment Area of the state and arrested some people, after locking up their stores.Sources in the area told Community News that some registered Pharmaceutical shops had petitioned the state Ministry of Health about the upsurge in the rate at which people set up unapproved medicine stores.'We heard information that some people petitioned the state government over the increase in the number of stores being opened for medicine stores.'I'm a landlord and when they approached me that I should give them my shop, I agreed and they paid the rent. Now, they have locked up the store now. I don't know if I can get my shop back. The rent would soon expire. I appeal to the government to come and open the shop for us so that we can give them out to others,' a landlord whose property was closed by the task force for being used for illegal patient medicine business, lamented.An official of the state Ministry of Health who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Community News that the action to close some of the shops and stores for undertaking illegal activities was to protect the interest of the people. 'We are here to safeguard the interest of the people. Our people die because of ignorant and it is the duty of the state government to protect them.
