Cross River partners AfDB on rural infrastructure

THE Cross River State government is partnering with African Development Bank (AfDB) towards ensuring the penetration of rural infrastructure to the remotest part of the State through the working of Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP).The state's Commissioner for Works, Venatius Ikem, made this known when he led a team of AfDB officials on inspection of RAMP projects sites in the State; stating that out of the six pilot States for African Development Bank's sponsored programmes, only Cross River has decided to up-grade its roads from just earth roads to asphalted roads.Ikem reiterated the commitment of Government to improving the living condition of its people through the provision of basic infrastructure noting that ADB has been untiring in it support to in diligent African communities.Speaking earlier, the Country Representative for AfDB, Dr. Ousmane Dove, said the bank is very appreciative of the readiness of the State Government in partnering with it to bring about an improvement in the socio-economic well being of its people.According to Dove, the development needs of Africa are enormous but AfDB is always willing to promote sustainable development and reduce poverty to its barest minimum.Also speaking, the State Project Coordinator, Charles Okongor, told the host community that the road work is their property and urged them to ensure that it is not vandalised.In their separate responses, the leaders of the host communities, viz a viz, Edik Edim Ikot Effang, Efuk Edik Edim Ikot Eyi and Okuku Barakpa expressed their profound gratitude to the State Government and the AfDB for positively impacting on their lives.According to them, other infrastructural provisions like Education and health care will be boosted and pledged their commitment to protecting all such installations from vandalisation.
